Yes and yes. There were MANY MVPs who would NEVER (and very proudly) work at Microsoft. They saw themselves as "holding Microsoft accountable" vs as fans. Likewise, in my tenure with the program I know the company hired well over 100 MVPs into full time jobs. This wasn't an intentional thing - just a natural by product. They knew the products well, they loved technology, they knew LOTS of people at MSFT and had a very discoverable public record of their knowledge. so it made sense they would both know about jobs and be good candidates.
