How does HP handle posts on topics that you're free to talk about on the phone, but prefer not to discuss details about on the public forums?

Oftentimes, I've seen moderators respond on the community that they've sent the member a private message, or that they'll have the appropriate person reach out to them privately. That way, the customer receives the most appropriate response to their question, and the rest of the community understands that the question has not gone unacknowledged/unanswered. What are some other methods that you have used in your own communities?
