Edit time - combined with the edit my posts role

Hi All,

It would be great to alter, or add to the behavior of the rules surrounding the the "edit my posts" rules and settings.

Currently there is a "Community" level setting which sets a time period for how long a user can edit their own posts. Could this setting be moved, so that it cascades, but can be adjusted at the category and Board levels as well?

Also, currently only moderators and admin, can override this setting (and edit their own posts). I would request that we expose these to a permission which can be set in a role. We currently have super users and staff, who are not moderators, that should be allowed to go back and update their own posts at a later date.

Cheers,

Thanks for the idea ppriston. Do you see different edit time period settings being used for different boards? Have you been getting such requests from your users? Some examples would be helpful.

I must confess, I don't think necessarily that we would want to change the time periods between different boards... It is difficult enough to educate around the timed feature as it is.

I think the main reason for this request is in having the ability to switch off the timed edit for certain areas and roles.

Some examples would be:

A private board, in which any membes can edit their posts without a time limit.

A Super user, who has permission to edit their posts in any board without limit.

A member of staff who needs to update information threads in specific, but who is not a moderator.

Does that make sense?

Cheers,

Thanks search!  I was just about to add an idea such as this.

After watching a demo of TKB where you can assign editors to specific KB articles, I think this feature/function would be a great feature for Forum Posts.  We have users who post guides or simply like to maintain FAQs.  We don't want to grant these users the ability to edit ANY post or let just anyone edit their own posts indefinitely (even in only one board).  IT would be great if we could do as ppriston suggests and grant these super users the ability to edit their own posts indefinitely.  Or... if a moderator could selectively add permissions to an individual post or thread and give that user more targeted edit permissions such as is seen in TKB.
