Automatica lly give kudos for accepted solution

This is pretty straightforward - usually when someone accepts a solution, she does not give any kudos to that post.
So there could be an option to set an accepted solution to automatically also give 1 kudos.

I think many communities - including ours - uses kudos as a rank criterion, but not Accepted solutions.
Since our veteran users know this, they sometimes feel that whilst getting a solution accepted may help the community, they don't really get any benefit at all if the OP doesn't also give them kudos. This is because their good answer doesn't help them to climb our ranks.
In very rare cases the OP both accepts a solution AND gives kudos, but usually they don't give kudos.
So if accepting a solution would automatically also give a kudos vote, everyone would stay happy.

I like this idea! Though my contrary nature can't help but think it may change some dynamics of things like search relevance and other formulas - kind of like a currency, if too many kudos are handed out, at what point does it devalue the worth of a kudo?
But in the end I think the benefit of getting some of these solutions surfaced in things like leaderboards would be very useful.
In the meantime, I just add accepted solutions as an alternative criteria for attaining ranks in addition to kudos so that receiving either one will move you forward. As an example, here's a partial formula for a rank rewarding kudos received or accepted solutions received:
(net_kudos_weight_received + (net_accepted_solutions*10)) >= 100
This kind of formula uses a sum of the two values (with a multiplier for accepted solutions) to evaluate the rank. For instance, a user could get 50 kudos and 5 accepted solutions, 10 kudos and 9 accepted solutions, or 90 kudos and 1 accepted solution to attain the next level.

Thanks for the formula Scott - that in a way solves it!
I did't realize AS and kudos can be combined, I thought it's always x amount of kudos AND y amount of AS per rank.
The option I requested could still be there, but that formula will allow us to get around the problem.
(Although in those cases when somebody does give both kudos & AS, the author would get double credit..

Technically the author would get a credit of 11 instead of 10 (AS) or 1(Kudo) towards the next rank, but you are correct. I think the benefit of getting the content added to the leaderbaords as well could be worth it, though. And feel free to modify that multiplier in your rank up or down to meet your community needs.

I have to say that I'm not really in favor of automatically adding a kudo on an accepted solution. While I agree that members should kudo another member who helped them, I think it should be encouraged and not forced. If a kudo is not freely given, it loses its meaning. Kudos and Accepted Solutions are two separate features which should remain separate, in my opinion.
Using them as criteria in the ranking formula is a much better solution.

Ah, good point. People are paradoxical creatures - I can see a circumstance where a person would mark something as the accepted solution, but perhaps they don't particularly like it enough to kudo it. Maybe its a workaround instead of a true answer or something.
Is the underlying issue we're trying to solve here highlighting solutions today in better ways? In which case, maybe an accepted solution leaderboard or a combo leader board would be an alternative? Or is it purely about recognizing users, in which case the rank formulas would seem to work for that?
