Great idea. It's not like people gain a rank every day. The potential for being seen as spammish is far outweighed by the positive aspect of acknowledging a user's ramp up to a new status/permissions, etc....

Great idea! Acknowledging users on their newly achieved statuses can be very encouraging and hence engage them further into the community. I would like to hear more thoughts on this idea.

Hopefully others will continue to comment, but another way to make use of this is to deliver rewards in a controlled fashion.

For example, one might wish to provide e-coupons for a substantial discount on a future purchase to members who have achieved a particular rank. 

While there are other ways to do this, perhaps running a report and using email, that would be more likely to be seen as marketing spam, rather than delivery tied at the time of achievement.

Absolutely love this idea!!!

Even here on Lithosphere I only know I've changed a rank by chance......color, rank name...

How cool would it be to receive an email of congrats?

Users love this stuff. Plus, unless they somehow 'stumble' upon that new forum or abilities...how will they know it's there?

Great idea!!  This would save so much time for the mods and congratulate & encourage continued activity. 

I can see where it could get tricky, but great idea!
