Color me pink - no more!

by Community Manager Community Manager on 08-17-2009 11:05 PM - last edited on 08-17-2009 11:05 PM

To paraphrase (read: 'steal blatantly from') my esteemed colleague Dana Dawes, it is with a heavy heart that I announce the parting of the site-specific installation titled simply as Rainbow Sherbet, but perhaps better known to our community patrons as "the rank colors".

Heralded by some as "brilliant, joyous", and by others as "garish" or "really pink", the time has come to say a fond yet bittersweet farewell. (sniff)

But as they say, when one door closes, another opens! And so it is today as we unveil our bold, stunning, inspiring new rank color of...medium-gray!

Oh yeah, and there's these new rank icons, too :smileywink::

Special thanks to our icon artiste extraordinaire Jared for his excellent work! If you have any feedback or questions, let us know!

And happy viewing!

Hmmm...  Going from one extreme to the other?

I know I commented about the dark purple not showing up well against the black sidebars, but that's very...  er....  spartan, isn't it!?!  ;-)  I like the new rank icons, but I also think they need a little color.  At least give us an orange star/flower/thingy for you guys!

But we do know you're listening to our complai comments!  ;-)

The medium gray is very difficult to see against the black background but I do like the new icons.  I'm glad you explained them here as I was wondering what they stood for.

Cool concept / implementation!

Other than this post, is there a place for a legend for these rank icons to appear ?

Maybe on the home page, or in the forums in the sidebar...?

Would that be the sort of thing you could use one of the custom widgets for?

"....all the leaves were brown, and the ranks were grey..."

Icons ,,,,,,,,,,,good.

All Grey....I don't get it.

I'm for more color.

The Icon breakdown was helpful. Good to know.

I think that's the first time I've heard the Lithosphere described as 'spartan'! :smileywink:

But to everyone who commented on the gray color, I know what you mean, it certainly isn't as bright as the various colors were before. It's a really tough balancing act with all the other bright color going on in the site to choose something that is both legible on dark and light backgrounds and that pops. I may try to tinker with it some more to see what can be done to liven it up.

Please keep that feedback coming, it only makes us better here!
