What is the difference between labels and tags. How do you assign a label to a message?

Looks like labels are meant only for ideas and not for forums. Is this correct.

Correct, labels are available for blogs and idea exchanges today, not forums.

The main difference is the the labels are assigned by the author of the initial post, not by any commentators, and are thus placed more prominently on the content submission. Tags are more democratic, as anyone with the permission can add a tag (which I guess makes labels more like a republic ).
