hi,

I need to know if we can customize the header names, button names etc using JavaScript. Do you have any document that can help us identify and refer to these items on the page. For instance,if I want to call the idea exchange as photo contest, can I do that? Can I change the button name from top ideas to top photos..Can I do that?

Please guide...

Hi Smitha,

    It is possible to rebrand "Idea Exchange" to "Photo Content" but it is really difficult, if not impossible, to change every phrase or button using JavaScript only.  The reason being is that the phrase "Idea Exchange" and related phrases are used it many different parts of the application including the FAQ, Bookmarks, etc.  In addition, there is the possibility that you may have to code the JavaScript more than once because the identifiers names may change in later releases.  There are many customers that rebrand our ideas or kudos to something else but they do so by utilizing the Lithium engineering team to make the changes in the code itself.     At this moment we do not have a document to help identify and refer to the items on the page.   As an engineer I use the FireFox browser plugin called "FireBug" (http://getfirebug.com). It's a tool we use to help us to identify the elements on the page among other reasons.
    If you'd like to rebrand "Idea Exchange" to "Photo Content" my advice is to contact your Customer Support Manager and discuss it with them.  They will then work with you through the process. To prepare yourself for the request it would be helpful if you have all of the phrases you want changed in a spreadsheet ready to go so we know what to expect and how much work this request entails.  Even more helpful would be screenshots of the Ideas Exchange marked it red the places you want renamed. Anything to help Lithium understand the request in detail is much appreciated.

Hi Ryan,

Yea, I tried to see what were the nametags associated using firebug. i was actually modify some of the names. I dont really want to rebrand the entire idea exchange, its just i want to be able to rename a couple pages. I will try to use firebug and change the settings and see what happens..thanks for the reply...if you find anything else that can help me please let me know

Ok, I understand what you're saying. If you're just changing a few names then that should work well.  Just make sure you start to test your code on the staging community prior to placing it on production. This ensures a seemless bugless transition. Thanks

yes i agree. I wouldnt touch the live community before I am sure that my changes would work on the staging stage

by the way i have a question

I am refereing to idea exchange here. Suppose I am entering a new idea. Here Is it possible to move upload image functionality outside the main entry box .

Hi Smpoluri,

When you say "move upload image functionality outside the main entry box" do you mean to move the button off the wysiwyg editor, or to allow users to upload images outside their post, or something else entirely? Would you be able to provide an example of what you want to do?

Okay, so the idea is to move the button up out of the tool bar and make it more prominent for your photo contest, correct?

This looks like it would involve at minimum 2 things:

• Creating a new button in the space above the WYSIWYG editor
• Hiding the current button

Here's the next question - is that a change you want to happen in every idea exchange & board, or just one?

I personally don't know if any of that is possible or not, particularly the last one. If you could confirm, that might make it easier for others to find out. Ultimately it may take an evaluation through your CSM to know for sure, but if anyone else has done something similar in their communities please chime in.

One instance I know of where a customer has customized the WYSIWYG editor page was on the Barnes & Noble Book Clubs - if you log on to that site you can see that when you post a message there is a new button to Add Product applied to the editor. This is a really cool way members can post about their favorite books, and provide links back to B&N's store to buy it! It's a great community for book lovers, so if you enjoy reading and discussing books take a look.

Yes thats exactly what i want to do. This change will be just for this one Idea exchange. we are trying to customize this idea exchange entry area for the photo contest. so people can easily upload their images with out doing the guess work.

how can I achieve this??

You should contact your CSM or enter a case via the Customer Case Portal for this customization request.
